Sandy Vaile, published romantic suspense author from Adelaide, founded the Novelist's Circle in 2010.
"I started the group in 2010, so I could meet other novelists. Each writing group offers something different, but writing a novel-length work comes with its own challenges and meeting like-minded people has been invaluable to me. It has been a huge success, with close bonds formed and seven of our members going onto publication so far."
Although Sandy doesn't get time to attend the meetings these days, the Novelist's Circle continues to carry on her founding wishes for a safe and encouraging community for local writers.
Sandy's guiding hand, great advice and positive attitude will be greatly missed at each meeting, and the group is eternally grateful for her hard work and dedication across the seven years she managed the Novelist's Circle.
WHO WE ARE.
We are friendly, casual and aim to provide a non-threatening environment to nurture budding novelists. The group is run by its members, and we try to cater for writers who have very little experience, through to those who have a saleable manuscript.
The Novelist's Circle provides members with a forum to problem solve, learn new writing skills, share tips, be critiqued, and hone manuscripts to a publishable standard.
We discuss whatever members need help with, up-coming writing events, industry news, and individual successes. At times we may have short activities, guest speakers, or information sheets to share.
HOW IT WORKS.
Each month members may email up to six pages of a manuscript (double spaced) to the group for critiquing.
Detailed mark-ups are emailed back, and more general comments discussed during each meeting.
Members must be working on a full length novel (of any genre), willing to share their work and also invest the time to read and critique submissions from other group members.
The Novelist's Circle expects members to behave respectfully towards one another, to offer honest criticism in a constructive and supportive way, and keep in mind that each person will always have their own style, genre and tastes.
We offer a positive environment for those wanting to better hone their writing and storytelling skills, and a great community for discussion and improvement.
